Type of Study	The use of propranolol to block memory reconsolidation in PTSD
Aim of Study	Do you have Upsetting Memories from your Deployment in Iraq or Afghanistan? If so, Female and Male Veterans from Operations OIF/OEF are invited to participate in this research study. This study will be using one day’s dose of a beta-blocker medication (propranolol) to see if it has an effect on upsetting deployment memories.
Inclusion Criteria	Male and Female Military Veterans from Operations OIF/OEF Ages 18-45 Medically Healthy
Exclusion Criteria	Non military personnel- No healthy civilian participants are needed at this time. Currently taking prescription medication (including birth control pills) that could contraindicate with propranolol. Current illicit substance use or alcohol consumption (as determined by a urine toxicology and alcohol breath test at each session). Any current or existing psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, or alcohol dependence. Active enrollment into any psychiatric or psychological treatment. Abnormal EKG (EKG is provided by the study). Any medical conditions discovered in a full physical contraindicating the use of propranolol (a physical is provided by the study). Diabetic, Asthmatic, or Pregnant

Type of Study	Do you want to quit smoking? If so, you are invited to participate in a study to help you quit smoking. Not a medication treatment study.
Aim of Study	To identify stress hormone changes that influence success with smoking cessation in people
Inclusion Criteria	Males and females Medically healthy No medications Between 18-55 years old Smoke ½ pack cigarettes or more daily AND want to quit smoking No pregnancy/no nursing No hearing difficulties Normal or corrected vision

Other Info	Screening involves free comprehensive psychiatric and medical evaluation including a physical exam, routine medical blood and urine tests, an EKG (a routine test of heart function done by connecting wires to your chest so that your heart’s electrical activity can be detected) and a urine drug screen. You will receive free counseling and support to quit smoking. Phone calls of encouragement and advice during Week 2 on non-visit days. Phone calls, as needed, in Weeks 3 and 4. Study involves daily urine screens during first week visits. On your quit day, as well as 2 and 7 days after you quit smoking, you will also participate in blood drawing for measurement of stress hormones, computer tests of concentration and tension tolerance, and a test of your emotional and nervous system responses to pictures that are pleasant, neutral, or unpleasant.
